Dance Classes for Preschool through Adult

BALLET and PRE-DANCE CLASSES

Pre-Dance/Creative Movement (ages 3-4)
This class begins to explore the basic elements of dance, which include shape, level, speed and direction.   The class also includes basic locomotion skills such as jumping, leaping, skipping, hopping and galloping.  The dancers will also be introduced to basic dance positions and vocabulary.  They will learn to interact with each other and are encouraged to use their imaginations throughout the entire class.  This class is recommended before taking Ballet/Tap.

Ballet/Tap (ages 5-6 and ages 3-4)
This class is a combination of creative movement and beginning ballet and tap.  At this level, students continue developing their locomotion skills and begin learning ballet and tap terminology.  Basic positions and arm movements are introduced in this class, while still including elements from creative movement (see above.)

Ballet/Jazz (approximate ages 5-6)
This class is a combination of creative movement and beginning ballet and jazz.  At this level, students continue developing their locomotion skills and begin learning ballet and tap terminology.  Basic positions and arm movements are introduced in this class, while still including elements from creative movement (see above.)

Ballet 1 (approximate ages 7-8)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 1, students will take a more structured ballet class consisting of exercises at the barre and in the center.  Taking this class for two years will prepare students for Ballet 2.

Ballet 2 (approximate ages 9-11)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 2, students will begin more advanced exercises at the barre and in the center.  Taking this class for two years will prepare students for Ballet 3.

Ballet 3 (teacher recommendation)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 3, students are taking an advanced level Ballet class and being prepared for Pointe shoes.  Taking ballet 3 for two years will prepare students for Ballet 4 and Pointe 1.

Ballet 4/Pointe 1 (teacher recommendation)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 4, students are taking an advanced level Ballet class and beginning/intermediate Pointe (optional).  Taking ballet 4 for two years will prepare students for Ballet 5 and Pointe 2.

Ballet 5/Pointe 2 (teacher recommendation)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 5, students are taking an advanced level ballet class and intermediate Pointe (optional).  Taking Ballet 5 for two years will prepare students for Ballet 6 and Pointe 3.

Ballet 6 (teacher recommendation)
Ballet is a classical form of dance with emphasis on clean lines and positions.  It trains dancers to have grace, precision and strength along with proper alignment.  Ballet is strongly recommended for all that are interested in dance because it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.  In Ballet 6, students are taking an advanced level ballet class and Pointe class (optional).  This is a pre-professional level class that will prepare a dancer for professional or collegiate level dance.

JAZZ and TAP CLASSES

Jazz/Tap 1 (approximate ages 7-8)
Jazz dance is a stylistic technique taught in a variety of ways.  This class focuses on intricate rhythms and body isolations.  Other components of a jazz class may include various leaps and turns as well as upbeat combinations of movement.  Jazz 1 is strongly recommended before taking Hip Hop.  Tap 1 class focuses on a variety of rhythms and sounds, and beginning tap steps.

Jazz 2 (approximate ages 9-11)
Jazz dance is a stylistic technique taught in a variety of ways.  This class focuses on intricate rhythms and body isolations.  Other components of a jazz class may include various leaps and turns as well as upbeat combinations of movement.

Jazz 3/4 (teacher recommendation)

Jazz 5/6 (teacher recommendation)
Jazz dance is a stylistic technique taught in a variety of ways.  This class focuses on intricate rhythms and body isolations.  Other components of a jazz class may include various leaps and turns as well as upbeat combinations of movement.  In this jazz class the dancers will focus on skills such as leaps and turns and combinations.

Tap 2 (approximate ages 9-11)
This class focuses on a variety of rhythms and sounds, and involves mastering intricate footwork.  Two main styles of tap include Rhythm and Broadway.  Taking Tap 2 for two years will prepare the student for Tap 3.

Tap 3/4 (teacher recommendation)
This class focuses on a variety of rhythms and sounds, and involves mastering intricate footwork.  Two main styles of tap include Rhythm and Broadway.  Taking tap 3 for two years will prepare the student for Tap 4.

HIP HOP CLASSES

Hip Hop 1 (approximate ages 7-9)
This style of dance is jazz based.  It deals less with technique and more with performance and choreography.  Hip-hop would be most closely related to what you would see in a music video.  Jazz 1 is strongly recommended before taking Hip Hop 1.

Hip Hop 2 (approximate ages 10-12)
This style of dance is jazz based.  It deals less with technique and more with performance and choreography.  Hip-hop would be most closely related to what you would see in a music video.  Jazz is strongly recommended before taking Hip Hop.

Hip Hop 3 (ages 13 and up)
This style of dance is jazz based.  It deals less with technique and more with performance and choreography.  Hip-hop would be most closely related to what you would see in a music video.  At this level dancers will be learning more advanced and mature movement.  Jazz is strongly recommended before taking Hip Hop.

CONTEMPORARY CLASSES

Contemporary 1 (approximate ages 8-10)
Contemporary dance technique is an organic method of moving, placing emphasis on the articulation of the torso and spine.  Contemporary dance trains the dancer to be more expressive and to relate to a variety of music styles.  Students also learn proper body alignment.  Several styles of modern dance exist today including Limon, Graham, Cunningham and Horton.  Taking a Ballet class is strongly recommended before taking Contemporary.

Contemporary 1/2 (continuing, approximate ages 10-12)
Contemporary dance technique is an organic method of moving, placing emphasis on the articulation of the torso and spine.  Contemporary dance trains the dancer to be more expressive and to relate to a variety of music styles.  Students also learn proper body alignment.  Several styles of modern dance exist today including Limon, Graham, Cunningham and Horton.  Contemporary 1 will prepare a student for this continuing Contemporary class.  Taking a Ballet class is strongly recommended before taking Contemporary.
