Eisenhower Dance Ensemble strives to provide outstanding arts education for schools and communities. Programs are curriculum-based, engaging and designed to foster creativity. Check out our listings below to find a program that’s right for you!

ASSEMBLIES

Kids ‘n Motion Assembly Program
Description: EDE presents an exciting, athletic and educational dance presentation. Students learn about the dance profession and choreography, including the different styles of dance, why people dance, the elements of choreography and the lifestyle of a dancer. Through fun and interactive audience participation, entertaining repertory excerpts and informative narration, company members inspire students to learn, create and enjoy dance. (See Video Below.)

Mini-Motown in Motion Lecture demonstration
Description: Especially designed for schoolchildren, this scaled-down version of EDE’s lavish production, Motown in Motion, is a fast-paced and lively presentation. Through narration, performance and audience interaction, the program teaches students about the life of a professional dancer, the elements of dance and the history of Motown.

Age Group: Grades K-8
Time: 50 minutes plus Q & A

RESIDENCIES

Healthy Kids Residency
Description: Through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, in collaboration with Beaumont Hospitals, has created an outstanding educational program addressing childhood overweight issues. Through lecture demonstrations, movement activities, family fun nights and performances, the program inspires children to make healthy lifestyle choices. (See video below.) The full residency project is 3-8 weeks in length, but shorter workshops can also be presented.

Curriculum Standards: Health Education Content Standards and Benchmarks, Arts Education Content Standards and Benchmarks for Dance
Curriculum Goals: Primary Message: Striving to balance the three keys to healthy living: nutrition, activity and emotional health. Supplementary Message: Making healthy living choices now leads to a brighter future, including less dependence on medications and a lower prevalence for certain diseases.

Specially Designed Educational Residencies
Description: Eisenhower Dance Ensemble can design residencies lasting one to six weeks that meet the curricular or arts education needs of the school. Residencies can include creative dance workshops, lecture demonstrations, master classes, performances and classroom visitations for participation and discussion. Choreographic Residencies
Description: Artistic Director Laurie Eisenhower accepts commissions to set her choreography on other companies or pre-professional dance programs. Programs can be designed to allow student companies to perform Ms. Eisenhower’s choreography as part of a collaborative performance with EDE.

Age Group: High School and older
Length of Residency: 1 week

Performance Opportunities for Community Dancers
Description: This is Eisenhower Dance Ensemble’s most requested community activity.  The company sends dancers in advance of an EDE performance into the community to work with local dancers.  EDE teaches the participants a dance which they perform in concert with EDE.  Dances range from easy to advanced in difficulty.  Contact us to discuss possibilities.

WORKSHOPS

Creative Movement Workshop
Description: One of EDE’s most popular classes, Creative Movement, is a workshop that focuses on teaching the basic elements of dance (shape, level, direction, speed) while at the same time providing activities that develop team building, confidence, discipline, problem solving, creativity and cooperation skills.

Age Group: All ages
Time: 40 minutes to 3 hours
Residency: Creative Movement can be conducted in repeated sessions, or as a single class.

Curriculum Standards: Arts Education Content Standards and Benchmarks for Dance, Health Education Content Standards and Benchmarks
Curriculum Goals: The class encourages students that are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. It promotes team-building skills by teaching cooperation and respect for others, commitment to group effort and understanding the roles of leader and follower. The class helps to develop personal skills by promoting discipline, self-confidence and problem solving, while encouraging individual creativity, imagination, innovation and musical skills.

Master Classes
Description: EDE dancers are qualified instructors. They are available to teach all levels of technique (i.e. ballet, modern, jazz, tap) and choreography classes. For professional track dancers, EDE offers master classes in ballet, modern and jazz techniques. EDE members have received pedagogy training in order to conduct a well-structured master class with age and level appropriate instruction.

Residency: Master Classes can be conducted in repeated sessions, or as a single class.
